Marital Status

In Nach Baliye’s first season, Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar won over fans before social media. Fans voted for this deserving pair, helping them win.

Sachin became famous for his roles in Sholay, Balika Badhu, and Piya Ka Ghar after starting as a kid actor. Sachin went from winning a National Film Award at four to commanding adult roles in Avatar, Satte Pe Satta, and Geet Gaata Chal. He started directing movies.

Director Sachin met Supriya on his second Marathi film, Navri Mile Navryala. When she performed, he thought she was ‘cute’. Despite working on the movie together, Sachin took a while to tell Supriya how he felt. After he succeeded, Supriya was shocked since she thought Sachin was married. They married in 1985 despite their ten-year age difference due to their love. The pair continued their artistic journey on the 1990s sitcom Tu Tu Main Main. The comedy series, directed by Sachin and starring Supriya, was an instant smash and introduced the actress to an audience outside of Marathi films.

The relationship symbolizes their trust, sincerity, and faith in each other. According to Sachin in a 2019 interview, they are a ‘power couple’ because they can disagree without masking their feelings and are always supportive. He said ‘I am incomplete without her.’

The talented actress and casting director Supriya Pilgaonkar was born in Mumbai on August 17, 1967. Most famous for ‘Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi’ (2016), ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ (2010), and ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ (1994). She is married to Indian film and television legend Sachin. They met through Sachin’s Marathi film ‘Navri Mile Navryala,’ starring Supriya. Each other’s respect and understanding on and off screen made them one of the industry’s most admired couples.

Career

As a child, Pilgaonkar began acting. He failed to appear in Madhavrao Shinde’s 1961 film, Soonbai. He got a National Award for Raja Paranjape’s 1962 Marathi film Ha Maza Marg Ekla at age four. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan awarded him. He debuted as a child actor in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Majhli Didi, starring Dharmendra and Meena Kumari. He later appeared in Jewel Thief, Chanda Aur Bijli, Brahmachari, and Mela. At age eight, he appeared in Shammi Kapoor’s Brahmachari with fellow child actor Naeem Sayyed (Junior Mehmood). As kids, they worked on 15 movies together.

For Rajshri Productions’ ‘Geet Gaata Chal’, Pilgaonkar briefly played a lead role with Sarika. The movie’s success led to their ongoing on-screen collaboration in films like ‘Zid,’ ‘College Girl,’ ‘Rajshri Productions,’ and ‘Nadiya Ke Paar.’ Pilgaonkar later returned to supporting roles in films like ‘Sholay,’ ‘Avtaar,’ ‘Sur Sangam,’ and ‘Satte Pe Satta.’ When prospects waned, he turned to creating TV series and directing Marathi films, becoming one of the best. He directed Subhash Ghai’s 1992 and 1996 films ‘Prem Deewane’ and ‘Aisi Bhi Kya Jaldi Hai’

Pilgaonkar co-starred as well as directed ‘Jaana Pehchana,’ the follow-up to his 2011 box office hit ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se.’ In 2015, he starred in ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli,’ which required him to speak only Urdu, which he had learned from Meena Kumari in 1966 while filming ‘Majhli Didi.’ He gave a great performance. He continually acknowledges superstars like Sanjeev Kumar for rehearsing difficult scenes and Hrishikesh Mukherjee for teaching him film editing.

Television

The 1990s saw Sachin succeed on Indian television as the director of Star Plus’s Hindi comedy show ‘Tu Tu Main Main’. This popular series starred his wife, Supriya, and Reema Lagoo. His creativity was exhibited in DD Metro’s ‘Rin 1 2 3,’ which copied Bollywood flicks. Besides these projects, Pilgaonkar directed the Dara Singh-starring sitcom ‘Hadh Kar Di.’ This show was canceled after a few seasons, despite a promising start. Pilgaonkar added events and Marathi cinema award ceremonies to his Star Plus Hindi music program, ‘Chalti Ka Naam Antakshari’.

In 2006, Pilgaonkar and his talented wife Supriya won ‘Nach Baliye’ with their dance skills. They won Rs. 4 million by outperforming nine famous couples with their immaculate performances and eye-catching choreographies. He launched ‘Eka Peksha Ek,’ a Zee Marathi dance show, in 2007. This programme attempted to unlock Maharashtra’s vast potential. In 2009, Colors TV’s reality comedic talent competition ‘Chhote Miyan’ featured Sachin Pilgaonkar as a judge, extending his television career.

Production and Direction

Pilgaonkar has directed Marathi films since the 1980s. The critically praised 1982 film Mai Baap was his directorial debut, but Navri Mile Navryala, starring his future wife Supriya Pilgaonkar, was his first commercial success. His Marathi film career was reinforced with Maza Pati Karodpati (1988) and Gammat Jammat (1987). He co-starred with Marathi superstars Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde in the 1988 film Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi, which was a hit. The movie was an instant hit, cementing Sachin Pilgaonkar’s success. After two experimental films, Aamchya Sarkhe Aamhich (1990) was another hit that reintroduced him to comedy.

Other Work

Sachin Pilgaonkar wrote his autobiography, ‘Hach Maza Marg,’ in 2017, while also writing a ghazal called ‘Badal Jo Ghir Ke Aaye,’ under the pseudonym ‘Shafaq’ for Govind Nihalani’s Marathi directorial debut, ‘Ti Ani Titar.’ Sachin Pilgaonkar starred in a 2018 music video for ‘Amchi Mumbai Changali Mumbai,’ which received mixed reviews.
